DUBAI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Tuesday it will build the first prototype of the high-speed "Hyperloop" train solution, reported WAM news agency.

RTA Chairman, Mattar Al-Tayer, and Rob Lloyd, CEO of Hypeloop One firm, signed an agreement to work through the Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) program and develop a prototype of self-driving cars powered by Hyperloop technology.

The company will also test the feasibility of connecting Dubai with several destinations, and determine the project's economic viability. If feasible, the technology will be implemented and stands to change the transport and logistics sector worldwide, according to WAM.

Dubai's daily Gulfnews reported that the prototype ought to be ready by 2020.

Hyperloop stations will be set up across the city to ensure accessibility and reduce travel time between Dubai and the UAE's capital Abu Dhabi to less than 12 minutes.

Hyperloop One revealed its vision for the future of the transport sector citing Dubai as an example during a presentation.

"Dubai has become a model for the cities of the future, launching one revolutionary initiative after the other and drastically reshaping strategic economic sectors," said Al-Tayer.

"The DFA program, though only a few months old, is now a gateway for the world's most innovative companies to materialize their ideas and achieve tangible results that can change the future and benefit mankind," said Rob Lloyd.

LONDON Javon Hargrave Jersey , Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on Wednesday announced he triggered a "high" air pollution alert given the "shocking and illegal state of London's filthy air."

This episode was caused by toxic emissions blown over from Europe, coupled with London's filthy air, according to a statement from Khan.

"This is the seventh time in 13 months that we have had to use the alert system and shows just why air pollution is a public health crisis," said the mayor.

With the alerts triggered, relevant warnings will be displayed at bus stops, road signs and on the underground. Those with lung or heart problems are advised to reduce outside exercise, especially the young and elderly.

Khan said he is implementing a series of policies to tackle air pollution, including an ultra low emission zone, doubling funding to improve London's air quality and cleaning up the capital's bus and taxi fleets.

He urged the government to give him the powers he needs to tackle non-transport sources of pollution, and "we must continue to work closely with the European Union post-Brexit to effectively address the air quality crisis our city faces."

OTTAWA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Remarkable progress has been made but contentious issues remain in the talks on renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as the United States, Canada and Mexico concluded a third round of talks here on Wednesday.

The three NAFTA parties said at the end of the five-day talks that much work remains to conclude the negotiations by the end of the year.

Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland told a press conference that there had been "five very productive days."

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said some issues related to small-and medium-size enterprises were resolved, but an enormous amount of work still needs to be done on other difficult matters.

Mexican Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo said his country will continue to seek tangible benefits for all countries from the renegotiations, while he admitted that substantial challenges lie ahead for the next round in Washington on Oct. 11-15.

"We have the ambition, we have the strength to try to move forward with a view to closing a negotiation but no one can assure with total certainty that we will be able to do it," Guajardo said.

The talks saw "significant" advances in such areas as the consolidation of proposals, which was one of the objectives for this round of talks.

From now on, negotiators will work from consolidated texts in most areas, instead of having to look at separate proposals from the three sides.

"Meaningful advancements were made in the areas of telecommunications, competition policy, digital trade, good regulatory practices, and customs and trade facilitation," according to a joint declaration by the three countries.

The three NAFTA parties exchanged "initial offers in the area of market access for government procurement."

The statement made no mention of some of the toughest issues facing the negotiators, including rules of origin and Chapter 19 for dispute resolution.

Trade among the three nations has quadrupled since NAFTA came into effect in 1994, surpassing 1 trillion U.S. dollars in 2015.

However, the agreement now is being renegotiated at the demand of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has lambasted the trade deal as having hurt American manufacturing and jobs.

A total of seven rounds of discussions are planned for the NAFTA renegotiations. All parties hope to conclude the process by late 2017 or early 2018 though some trade experts dismissed the deadline as impossible.
